## Engineer builds Holmes desk simulator
Extend engineer Bo Lau created a website simulating what it was like to be Elizabeth Holmes, the Theranos founder, using over a thousand emails, slides, texts and documents from her criminal trial.
## The site recreates 2016 in detail
The environment takes you back to two thousand sixteen, when iPhones had home buttons and you slid your finger to unlock them. The MacBook Air runs OS X El Capitan.
## You can explore real trial documents
Visitors can click through the environment to look at documents made public from the United States v. Elizabeth Holmes case on Holmes' iPhone and laptop screens, navigating thousands of PDFs more easily.
## You can even run the Edison machine
The website lets you run the Theranos Edison machine, the company's ill-fated device that was supposed to extract large amounts of health data from one drop of blood.
## It makes a complex case accessible
The project is an interesting way to peruse documents from one of the most infamous court cases in tech history. It is easier to navigate than sourcing thousands of PDFs from court websites.
## Lau is promoting a documentary
The engineer is promoting a watch party for Nathan Fielder's upcoming documentary about Elizabeth Holmes called You Can See Everything.
## It also promotes Extend's software
Lau works for Extend, a company that can parse, extract and split documents with what it claims is unmatched accuracy. The Holmes desk simulator demonstrates the company's document-handling capabilities.
## Key takeaway

Extend engineer Bo Lau created a website simulating Elizabeth Holmes' desk using thousands of real documents from her criminal trial, also promoting a documentary and his company's document-parsing software.
