Iranian MP warns US blockade

Manouchehr Mottaki, MP

Senior Iranian MP Manouchehr Mottaki told Euronews the Strait of Hormuz standoff is unsustainable due to US naval blockade.

“This situation is not sustainable”

US blockade violates international law

Mottaki called the US naval blockade illegal under international law, preventing unauthorised transit through the strait.

“The immediate obstacle to moving beyond this situation is the blockade, a blockade that the Americans are carrying out illegally, in violation of international law”

IRGC Navy targets ships daily

Over the past 10 days, the IRGC Navy has immobilised three to seven ships daily through mines or drone and missile attacks.

“Every day, three, four, five, or even seven ships are being immobilised or stranded at sea as a result of encounters with mines or drone and missile projectiles”

Strait closure causes regional crisis

Mottaki stated the strait was previously open for global maritime traffic before the war, now causing regional instability.

“Before the war, the strait was open, and all maritime traffic was taking place. Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa were all conducting their maritime traffic through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz”

Mottaki demands US lift blockade

Mottaki demands US lift blockade

Mottaki urged Washington to lift the naval blockade as a precondition for resuming diplomatic talks with Iran.

“Following this defeat suffered by (US President Donald) Trump and his party in the US elections, I think we need to make it very clear to them that they are committed to implementing the memorandum of understanding, and that, as a first step, they must lift this blockade”

Iran sets seven conditions

Tehran requires Washington to accept seven conditions, including ending the US naval blockade, lifting oil sanctions, and unfreezing Iranian assets.

“Tehran has said the Strait of Hormuz will reopen only once Washington accepts seven conditions, including ending the US naval blockade, lifting oil sanctions, unfreezing Iranian assets abroad, and halting the broader Middle East war”

The essence

Iranian MP Mottaki says US naval blockade in Strait of Hormuz is unsustainable and must end for talks to resume.
