Point any MCP client at one URL. Give it a link and it returns the short version, with a cover image, a one-line description and the key takeaway. Reading and searching need no account.
POST https://shortify.news/api/public/mcpStateless Streamable HTTP, JSON-RPC 2.0. No session to keep. The machine-readable descriptor lives at /.well-known/mcp.json.
shortify_linkTurn an article, blog post or PDF URL into a Shortify card story, and return its headline, one-line description, key takeaway, cover image and permanent link, with the whole deck as markdown. A story that already exists is returned as it stands rather than rebuilt. Building a new one needs a Shortify access token and spends a summariser call, so prefer get_story when you only want to look something up.
search_storiesSearch the Shortify corpus and get back the best matches, newest and most relevant first. Matches three ways at once and fuses the rankings: the words themselves, the word the caller meant when it was mistyped, and the meaning, so a search for "EV" finds a headline that says electric vehicle. Narrow with tags or publishers, or pass only tags to browse a topic. Builds no stories; a term that has not been searched before costs one small embedding call, and repeats are cached. Returns a short summary per story; follow up with get_story for the full deck.
get_storyLook up a Shortify story that already exists, by its original article URL or by its slug. Builds nothing, spends nothing, and needs no account for a public story. Returns an error result when there is no story for that link yet.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http shortify https://shortify.news/api/public/mcpAnything that reads a config file, such as Claude Desktop:
{
"mcpServers": {
"shortify": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://shortify.news/api/public/mcp"
}
}
}Searching and reading are open. Building a story spends a summariser call and puts a page into the world under a publisher's name, so it needs a Shortify account: send your access token as Authorization: Bearer … and the story is filed as yours, private unless you ask otherwise.
/api/public/md/{slug} — any story as plain markdown
