Joanne Young was repeatedly assaulted by her husband Philip Young at their home in Swindon, Wiltshire. Young has pleaded guilty to 56 charges of drugging and sexually abusing her.

Husband advertised wife to other men

Philip Young placed an advert inviting other men to have sex with his wife. Four men are on trial at Winchester Crown Court accused of sexually abusing Joanne Young, who waived her anonymity.

Defendant says he saw no signs of drugging

Connor Sanderson-Doyle, thirty-two, of Swindon, told the court on Monday: "At no point did I have any indication that she was drugged, intoxicated, was doing anything against her will."

Sanderson-Doyle said he believed the advert was placed by a couple, not just the husband, and that Joanne Young was in agreement. He was twenty-one when he answered the advert in June 2016.

Defendant says charges have ruined his life

Sanderson-Doyle told the jury the charges have ruined his life and career, having lost his security clearance working on nuclear defence projects for the Ministry of Defence.

Trial continues with five other defendants

Three other men are on trial: Norman Macksoni, forty-eight; Mohammed Hassan, thirty-eight; and Richard Wilkins, sixty-two.
