Standards inquiry into Farage gift nearing end

Nigel Farage's rivals are preparing for a byelection in Clacton as a standards investigation into his five million pound gift approaches conclusion.
The five million pound crypto gift
The Guardian revealed in May that crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne gave Farage five million pounds just before the two thousand twenty-four election. Farage said it was personal, not political.
“it was a personal matter, not political”
Conservatives ready to fight in Clacton
Conservative sources said the party was ready to fight in Farage's seat, although senior figures are divided about whether it would be winnable given Farage's byelection victory over summer.
How the standards process works

If a serious breach is found, the commissioner passes a memorandum to the standards committee. They hold further hearings before deciding on a penalty. The MP can appeal to an independent expert panel.
Recall petition if suspension exceeds ten days
If parliament agrees to a penalty of more than ten days suspension from the House of Commons, a recall petition could be held requiring signatures from ten percent of voters over six weeks.
Farage vows to fight for his seat

Reform sources insisted Farage would fight for his seat again. He won the August byelection by more than eleven thousand votes and is touring the country and reorganising party headquarters.
The short version
