A month without her husband

Chloe Dang's husband Hiep Tran went missing a month ago. She now understands he is being wrongfully detained in a Vietnamese prison.

Their ordinary life together

Hiep works in data analytics. They share meals, watch movies, play with their cats, hike, camp and fish together. He plays piano and guitar at church and family gatherings.

His condition in prison

Chloe received fragmented details that Hiep is in a fragile mental state, gripped by fear, and experiencing erratic blood pressure, symptoms he had never experienced before.

His message from prison

In a message read at four am, Hiep told Chloe he never entered Vietnam on his own and never crossed the border. He said he is traumatised and terrified.

“I never entered Vietnam on my own. I never crossed the border. I am struggling mentally, traumatised and terrified by the situation.”

Missed anniversary and birthday

Next week Chloe and Hiep would celebrate their eighth anniversary. Hiep had booked tickets for a trip to South Korea. His birthday was on October seventh.

Messages blocked from reaching him

Chloe tried to send Hiep a happy birthday message and photos, but they were not allowed to reach him. She questions why they fear a simple message from loved ones.

“Why are they so afraid of a simple message from his loved ones?”

Call for his release and return

The Australian government has provided support to Chloe's family. She hopes it will continue to secure Hiep's safe return and calls for people worldwide to speak up for his release.
