Nine men on trial in Manchester

Nine men have gone on trial at Manchester Minshull Street crown court accused of abusing a woman who was drugged, raped and sexually assaulted by her husband.

Husband already pleaded guilty

The husband, who cannot be named to protect his victim, has already pleaded guilty to offences against his wife spanning more than two decades at their Stockport home.

Two non-contact offenders

Daniel Rayner, forty-two, from Whitstable in Kent and David Graves, fifty-nine, from Ilkeston in Derbyshire were described as non-contact offenders who allegedly encouraged the abuse online.

Seven contact offenders named

Seven men are described as contact offenders who allegedly visited the Stockport home and participated in abuse.

Three already admitted guilt

Sean Peers, thirty-eight, from Stockport; Keith Fotheringham, fifty-nine, from Dundee; and Graham Brougham, seventy-four, from Northwich in Cheshire have already admitted abusing the woman at previous hearings.

Husband drugged her for twenty years

Prosecutor Louise Oakley KC said the husband abused his wife sexually for over twenty years while she was asleep or unconscious, initially using alcohol then deliberately administering stupefying drugs without her knowledge.

“Unbeknownst to the victim, for over twenty years, her husband had been abusing her sexually in a variety of ways whilst she was asleep or was unconscious.”

From 2023 he invited others

From 2023 onwards the husband began inviting other men to their home to rape and sexually abuse his wife while she lay unconscious in their bed, which he filmed.

Victim discovered through police

The victim had no idea the abuse was happening until police came to her door and identified her as the subject of videos her husband had taken.

“That is, until the police came round to her door and identified to her that she had been the subject of the videos.”
