United CEO backs wealth tax
Scott Kirby, chief executive of United Airlines, says wealth inequality has become a danger to society and supports a nationwide wealth tax to address it.
“wealth inequality has become a danger to our society”
Why it must be national
Kirby told The New York Times a wealth tax must be nationwide because state-level taxes would not work. People would simply move to avoid them.
“We should have a national wealth tax, it won't work by state because people will just move”
Kirby's compensation and views
Kirby was one of the highest-paid CEOs in two thousand twenty-five with total compensation valued at over thirty-two million dollars. He also supports inheritance taxes close to one hundred percent.
“We should have inheritance taxes that get close to 100 percent at some level”
Other billionaires split on taxes
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he is willing to pay billions in taxes if California's wealth tax passes. Google cofounder Sergey Brin donated one hundred two million dollars to defeat it.
“I don't mind paying taxes. The more you make, the more taxes you pay, so I'm OK with it.”
The bottom line
United CEO Scott Kirby publicly supports a nationwide wealth tax and inheritance taxes close to one hundred percent, joining other billionaire executives open to higher taxes on the wealthy.
