Photographer's Approach

Weston McGhee focuses on unguarded ballet moments beyond polished performances.
“Rigid and unforgiving are perhaps two adjectives that come to mind when describing ballet.”
Garage Shoot with Cydney

McGhee photographed Cydney in a Boise garage for his Interval series.
“Most of the time during this shoot, it was me letting her do what she knows best and trying to time these movements correctly.”
Collaborative Shoot
McGhee encouraged Cydney to express herself freely without choreography.
“I told her that I wanted this to be a collaborative shoot. I said, 'Turn on some music and create!'”
Boise Location Choice
The Boise garage was chosen for its direct sunlight in May.
“Each time always had a different feel, but this time, in May, the direct sun was perfect.”
Photography Setup

McGhee used a Fujifilm X100VI with a 23mm f/2 lens for sharp images.
“I didn't want any motion blur for this series.”
Monochrome Process
McGhee converted images to monochrome for a timeless aesthetic.
“I believe it helps eliminate any other distractions, and I like to have a timeless look.”
VSCO Selection
McGhee's image was selected by VSCO from 13,000 entries for billboard display.
“This image was recently selected by the photography platform VSCO to feature among The Fifty.”
