Gross shaped tech incubation
Bill Gross founded Idealab in nineteen ninety-six, the industry's longest-running tech incubator. It backed CitySearch, Coinbase, Picasa, and Twilio.
Gross reads problems everywhere
Gross has spent his career reading finance and tech publications to find problems worth solving. He wondered if AI could generate business ideas from news articles.
“My whole life, I've been looking at the world, seeing problems, and trying to start companies to solve them.”
Claude generates 32,000 ideas
Gross supplied Anthropic's Claude with seven thousand articles and material about generating business ideas. The AI returned thirty-two thousand company ideas.
“They blew my mind at how good they are.”
AI scales problem-solving
Gross initially worried AI would make his role obsolete. Instead he realized it could help him solve more problems at scale by expanding the dataset.
Database expands to 1.2 million
Gross added expired patents, SEC filings, consumer complaints from social media, and science publications to the training data. The system generated over one million ideas.
Ideas solve world problems
The database contains one point two million ideas trained on every world problem. Gross says it basically solves pretty much every world problem.
“I've got a database of 1.2 million ideas that basically solve pretty much every world problem because it was trained by reading every world problem.”
Idealab.ai releases free tools
Idealab.ai released a freely available database of AI-generated startup ideas and a periodic table of business functions and software for entrepreneurs.
