Iconic Batmobile hits the auction block

The Batman Returns Batmobile from Tim Burton's 1992 film is headlining The Ultimate Batmobile Auction, organized by Turner Classic Movies and Julien's Auctions.
Built from two Chevrolet Impalas
The chassis was spliced from two Chevrolet Impalas, with a hand-sculpted body featuring a jet turbine nose, afterburner exhaust, and retro-style fins. Carl Casper, who ran a custom car shop for 55 years, built the vehicle.
Estimated at $5 to $7 million
Julien's placed the pre-auction estimate based on the 2013 sale of the Adam West TV series Batmobile, which fetched $4.6 million. The auction is scheduled for November 23.
Batman defined by the car
Michael Uslan, executive producer of every live-action Batman movie, said the Batmobile is essential to the character's identity alongside his rogues' gallery and origin story.
“Batman is defined by having no superpowers, an unmatched rogues' gallery, an origin story that towers over the genre, and the car.”
Broader memorabilia sale underway
The Ultimate Batmobile Auction is accepting consignments including props, wardrobe, set dressing, and archival material from Batman films. Bidder registration is open now.
