A bank becomes Boston's finest hotel

A bank becomes Boston's finest hotel

The Langham Boston occupies the oldest historic building of any major five-star hotel in Boston, built in 1922 as the Federal Reserve Bank headquarters. It just earned Two Michelin Keys for exceptional hospitality.

Renaissance Revival grandeur preserved

The 1922 building features granite lower floors, limestone above, marble fireplaces, gilded coffered ceilings and large arched windows. N.C. Wyeth painted priceless murals depicting American banking history that still hang in the Wyeth Room.

Two-year renovation completed in 2021

The hotel underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation covering all 312 rooms and suites, restaurants, public spaces and event rooms. Architect Dyer Brown and interior designer Richmond International retained original features while adding modern luxury throughout.

The Fed restaurant ranks nationally

The Fed restaurant and bar ranked number four among the Best Hotel Bars in the U.S. in USA Today's 2024 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards. Executive Chef Daniel Burger's new menu blends New England classics with global influences.

New England seafood meets global flavors

Pan-seared Jonah crab cakes come with avocado crema, while Maine lobster rolls feature passionfruit aioli. A 55-day dry-aged New York strip includes wasabi whipped potatoes, and diver scallops pair with shiitake mushrooms and chili sauce.

Treasury Collection cocktails by currency

Each cocktail is named for a currency and uses ingredients from that country. The Japanese Yen combines Suntory Toki whisky with sakura-honey lemon, while the Brazilian Real mixes cachaça with oat-milk orgeat and açai grenadine.

Bi-level suites with banking-era windows

Signature Bi-Level Suites retain enormous two-story brass-embossed windows from the Federal Reserve era, with living room downstairs and bedroom above. The Chairman's Suite includes hardwood floors, a piano and a dining room seating eight.

Wellness center with 40-foot heated pool

The third-floor wellness area features a 40-foot heated indoor pool in a sunlit pavilion, plus whirlpool and saunas. The 24-hour two-level fitness center includes Technogym equipment used by Ferrari's Formula 1 team and Peloton bikes.

Only four Boston hotels have this distinction

The Langham holds Two Michelin Keys, the highest hotel rating in Michelin's 2024 system. Only three other five-star hotels in the Boston area share this honor, while well-known properties like the Four Seasons have just one key.
