Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal review
Strong carpet cleaning but weak mopping keeps this $1,299 hybrid from being a top pick.
In brief
Strong carpet cleaning but weak mopping keeps this $1,299 hybrid from being a top pick. The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal excels at vacuuming carpets and navigating homes, but its mopping performance and high price make the cheaper Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni a better choice for most buyers. Hybrid vacuum and mop with real strengths
The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal handles stubborn carpet debris effortlessly and navigates complex floor plans without bumping into obstacles. It's a solid performer on carpeted homes.
But mopping falls short of expectations
The robot struggles to pick up all pet hair and its mopping performance is subpar, smearing messes across the floor instead of cleaning them effectively.
Price puts it above better alternatives
At $1,299, the Shark costs more than the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni at $1,099.99, which offers similar vacuum performance and superior mopping design.
Best for pet-free carpeted homes
If you have a pet-free home with mostly carpeted flooring, the Shark is worth considering. Otherwise, look elsewhere for better overall performance.
UV module detects invisible stains
The robot's namesake feature uses ultraviolet light to spot stains invisible to the naked eye, helping it target areas needing extra cleaning attention.
Advanced sensors guide navigation
A 360-degree LiDAR module on top handles navigation, while a 3D RGB sensor and UltraRange Camera on the front help the robot understand its environment.
Compact design with hidden controls
The disc-shaped robot has an understated look and fits under some furniture. Touch controls on top light up when the robot is working.
Hands-free docking station included
The robot returns to its dock automatically, which handles emptying and maintenance tasks without requiring manual intervention.
Editors' Choice goes to Ecovacs
The Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni remains PCMag's Editors' Choice thanks to its lower price, comparable vacuum performance, and superior mop design.
Consider alternatives for mopping
If mopping is important to you, the Ecovacs or other premium models offer better wet cleaning results at a lower price point.
Strong vacuum, weak mop verdict
The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal is an excellent carpet vacuum but disappoints on hard floors. Its high price makes it hard to recommend over more well-rounded competitors.
What to remember
The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal excels at vacuuming carpets and navigating homes, but its mopping performance and high price make the cheaper Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni a better choice for most buyers.
