Airbnb commits to AI agent launch

Airbnb announced on Thursday that its custom AI travel agent will launch in the first half of 2027, providing more detail about how the feature will work and differ from typical chatbots.
Why travel needs its own AI
CEO Brian Chesky said general-purpose AI agents like Muse and Instinct handle routine tasks but travel is different. Eighty percent of travelers enjoy researching trips, wanting to view photos and compare homes.
“Travel is aspirational. Discovering where to go and where to stay is part of the experience.”
Visual interface, not just chat
Airbnb's agent will use a custom-designed interface drawing from hundreds of travel-specific components including maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries, composed in real time to match what users seek.
“So instead of relying on traditional chat alone, which is very text-heavy, which, again, is definitely not the way you should plan travel, our agent draws from a library of hundreds of travel-specific interface components.”
Generative UI for travel needs
Chesky described the agent as feeling like generative UI, designed to offer the right interface at the right time for someone's specific travel needs rather than responding as a traditional chatbot would.
Support beyond the booking
The agent will help guests throughout their trip, from changing reservations or resolving payment issues to getting help with refunds, rebooking or twenty-four-hour safety support, things outside agents cannot easily do.
Expanding beyond homes and hotels
Over time, Airbnb expects the agent will help travelers with other aspects of their trip, including not only homes and hotels but also services and experiences, areas the company has focused on since its redesign…
Strong earnings fuel growth plans
Airbnb reported Q three revenue grew nineteen percent to four point eight seven billion dollars, topping Wall Street estimates. The company raised its twenty twenty-six revenue growth forecast to the high teens from mid-teens.
“Airbnb is back in growth mode. It's rare for a marketplace of our size to reaccelerate growth, but that's exactly what we're doing.”
Fastest growth in three years
Chesky told analysts that Q three was Airbnb's fastest revenue growth in more than three years, marking a significant reacceleration for the marketplace as it pursues its AI travel agent strategy.
In short
Airbnb will launch its own AI travel agent in the first half of 2027, built with a visual interface tailored to travel planning rather than text-based chat.
