Instagram will let you claim the photo your friend posted
Tagged posts can now live on your profile grid without you reposting anything.
In brief
Tagged posts can now live on your profile grid without you reposting anything. If a friend beat you to posting the best group shot, you can add that tagged post to your own grid instead of reposting it. Originally reported by TechCrunch.
Tagged posts, your grid

Instagram started rolling out a feature that lets you add posts you're tagged in straight to your main profile grid. It went live on September 10.
“Starting today, you can add posts you're tagged in directly to your main profile grid.”
The group photo problem

You get home from a party or a trip, open the shared album, and someone has already posted the best shot of everyone and tagged you in it.
Reposting felt weird
You could always upload the same photo yourself, but putting up a picture a friend just posted is awkward. This is Instagram's way around that.
“While you could post the same photo yourself, that feels a little awkward.”
Three ways in

Add a tagged post from the DM notification you get when someone tags you, from the post itself, or from your Tagged tab. Remove it from your profile whenever you want.
Nothing gets duplicated
The original post stays put. Adding it to your grid does not delete or copy it, and pulling it off your profile leaves it in your Tagged tab.
“The original post stays exactly where it is.”
Built for collabs too
Creators can surface content they were tagged in without republishing or using Invite collaborators. It follows June's grid reordering, plus First Draft and Replace Audio.
What matters most
If a friend beat you to posting the best group shot, you can add that tagged post to your own grid instead of reposting it.
