Amnezia opens shutdown tracker
Censorship-resistant VPN provider Amnezia VPN has launched Amnezia Pulse, a public map tracking internet outages, slowdowns, and whitelist restrictions as they happen in real time.
From internal tool to public resource
Amnezia Pulse began as an internal project powering the company's monthly digests on Russian internet blocking. Now anyone can check the live map to see which regions are having problems.
How Pulse monitors disruptions
Amnezia Pulse maps disruptions on mobile and home networks, updated daily. In Russia it monitors four mobile operators: MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, and T2, plus broadband providers Rostelecom and Dom.ru.
Color coding shows severity levels
Each region is color-coded by severity. Green means no disruptions, yellow signals problems, and red marks a serious outage. Clicking a region opens an hour-by-hour graph of the incident.
Eighty incidents in five weeks
Amnezia Pulse logged eighty incidents across thirty-six Russian regions between September fifteen and October twenty, twenty twenty-six, with Krasnodar Krai hit hardest. Synchronized shutdowns are hitting multiple regions simultaneously.
How the tracking technology works
Pulse reads traffic through Amnezia's VPN servers, building a fourteen-day baseline of normal activity split into five-minute intervals.
Expanding beyond Russia
Coverage is not limited to Russia. Amnezia has spotted traffic anomalies in Gabon linked to long-running social media restrictions and plans to expand into Africa and Latin America.
Researchers gain access, but challenges remain
Amnezia plans to launch an open API for researchers and human rights organizations. However, accuracy depends on how many Amnezia Free and Premium users are connected in each region.
“a valuable resource for both the Russian and global internet freedom communities”
The big picture
