Mumbai Port handles heavy cargo
Mumbai Port Authority handled three exceptionally heavy over-dimensional cargo packages through specialised Ro-Ro operations on Friday.
Three heavy packages moved
The packages weighed a total of 1,452 MT and were transported by barge from Dahej, Gujarat to Mumbai Port for export to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
Package details
The packages included a PG Cooler weighing 718 MT, a Riser and Downcomer weighing 502 MT, and a Steam Drum weighing 232 MT.
Special handling needed
Due to their exceptional weight and dimensions, the packages could not be discharged using conventional ship gear or shore cranes.
Specialised roll-off method
Mumbai Port used a specialised barge roll-off method to safely move the packages from the barge to the wharf using hydraulic puller trailers.
