Nine aircraft team returns to base
The Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team could not perform over Bannimantap Grounds on October 18 and returned to Air Force Station Yelahanka due to adverse weather conditions.
Cloud cover and terrain blocked display
Squadron Leader Tushar Sharma said the team needs a certain cloud base and cannot fly too close to ground. Chamundi Hills, about five kilometres from the grounds, posed additional obstacles.
“Due to the prevailing weather conditions we decided to return to the base.”
Full display planned for October 19
The team is scheduled to perform on October 19 if weather permits, including signature manoeuvres like loops, barrel rolls, inverted flying and the DNA manoeuvre.
Special Mysuru palace formation planned
If weather allows, the team will attempt a flyby depicting the shape of Mysuru palace in the air as a special dedication to the people of Mysuru.
New formations honour IAF aircraft
Established in 1996, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team flies Hawk Mk 132 aircraft and has introduced new formations named Tejas, Sukhoi, Rafale, Gagnayaan, Bramhos and Akash, dedicated to IAF inventory.
The short version
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team cancelled its October 18 display at Mysuru's Dasara festival due to bad weather and low cloud cover, but is scheduled to perform on October 19 if conditions improve.
