TTD Chairman inspects water crisis

TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu inspected Tirumala's reservoirs on Thursday amid concerns about impending water scarcity and uncertain rainfall affecting storage levels.

Reserves will last 150 days

Current water storage is sufficient to meet Tirumala's needs for the next one hundred fifty days. TTD Chairman Naidu directed officials to develop alternatives if rainfall fails to replenish reservoirs.

Supplies expected through March-April

B.R. Naidu said existing reserves would last through March and April. He recently discussed the issue with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who expressed confidence that forthcoming monsoons would improve storage.

Tirumala consumes fifty lakh gallons daily

Tirumala consumes around fifty lakh gallons of water every day. TTD's own reservoirs meet about half the requirement, with Kalyani Dam supplying the rest. TTD is considering drawing more water from Kalyani Dam.

Full replenishment would secure eighteen months

Reservoirs generally receive inflows during November and December. Full replenishment would enable TTD to meet the town's needs for eighteen months, according to Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary.

Conservation and long-term measures underway

TTD is implementing conservation measures including arresting water wastage, creating awareness among pilgrims, plugging leakages and installing automated gate systems in accommodation facilities.

Desilting and check dams planned

TTD is planning reservoir desilting, construction of check dams and further measures to improve water conservation and dam safety to protect the temple against possible supply constraints.

The main idea

Tirumala shrine's water reserves will last until March-April as TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu inspects facilities and plans contingencies amid uncertain rainfall.
