Before the Renovation

The kitchen was a jarring contrast of baby blue cabinetry and patterned floor tiles.
“It was a pretty tragic representation of the 2010s”
Design Philosophy

Blazek focused on dark tones to build cohesion between the home's classic details and modern kitchen.
“The fewer the components, the bigger the impact”
Dark Tones Implementation

Burgundy tile and two-tone brown cabinets with painted bottoms and stained tops created a tonal palette.
“Cue the range alcove’s burgundy tile and the two-tone brown cabinets”
Lighting Choices

Brass-and-leather island chandelier and metal dining pendant provided practical lighting without museum feel.
“I try not to be too referential with lighting”
Mudroom and Seating

Blazek added banquette seating and a pantry with coffee station after moving appliances to a mudroom.
“The washer and dryer used to be tucked in the closet behind the island”
Final Touches

Beadboard paneling and original window trim enhanced the Craftsman aesthetic without sacrificing natural light.
“The two existing windows above the banquette were in good condition”
