Nvidia Expands DLSS 5 to Older GPUs

Modder leaks forced Nvidia to bring DLSS 5 to RTX 40-series cards, but players still won't get full manual control.

In brief

Modder leaks forced Nvidia to bring DLSS 5 to RTX 40-series cards, but players still won't get full manual control. DLSS 5 is officially coming to RTX 40 GPUs, but Nvidia is keeping fine-grained AI graphics settings locked to developer control. Originally reported by The Verge.

RTX 40 GPUs get DLSS 5

Nvidia changed its launch plans for DLSS 5 after modders leaked a working version on older hardware. Official support will expand to RTX 40-series cards after RTX 50 optimization.

Once RTX 50 Series performance is more fully tuned, we plan to work on expanding official support to the GeForce RTX 40 Series

RTX 20 and 30 series wait

While modders managed to run DLSS 5 on older GPUs with frequent crashes, Nvidia is not prioritizing official support for RTX 20 or 30 series cards.

Once we feel like the 50-series is in a good place, we’re going to look at the 40-series.

No fine-tuning sliders for players

Despite modders unlocking granular controls, Nvidia confirmed that DLSS 5 will remain a simple on-or-off toggle for end users.

Developers retain granular control

Detailed artistic settings like Structure Intensity and Tone Intensity are reserved for game studios, though developers can choose to expose menu options.

Semantic AI handles scene masking

DLSS 5 automatically recognizes objects like faces, foliage, and glassware to apply custom neural lighting adjustments without requiring manual asset tags.

Developer commitment remains uncertain

Following early backlash against DLSS 5, Nvidia declined to re-confirm previously announced titles like Starfield and Hogwarts Legacy.

Many developers are actively integrating DLSS 5, and we’ll share updates on upcoming titles as partners finalize their integrations.
