Ethereum ETFs bleed $366M while whales buy the dip
Institutional funds fled while major holders staked their coins, and the price already shows who read the market right.
In brief
Institutional funds fled while major holders staked their coins, and the price already shows who read the market right. Ethereum whales who staked during the dip saw 10% gains in 48 hours while ETFs that sold missed the recovery. Originally reported by 24/7 Wall St..
Two camps, opposite moves

Ethereum ETFs lost $366 million in two days while whale wallets bought aggressively during the same dip.
BlackRock drove the exodus
US spot Ethereum ETFs saw $141.47 million leave on September 15, then $224.11 million on September 16. BlackRock alone pulled $110 million.
Price drop magnified the damage
Net assets fell $1.26 billion, but only $366 million came from withdrawals. The other $894 million was Ethereum's price falling.
The Fed triggered the sell-off

On September 16, the Federal Reserve raised rates to 3.75% to 4.00%, its first hike since 2023. The 10-year Treasury hit 5.01%.
Whales chose staking instead

More than one-third of circulating ETH is now staked, locking coins for weeks. Exchange balances hit multi-year lows.
BitMine and SharpLink went all in
BitMine stakes 85% of its Ethereum holdings, while SharpLink stakes nearly all of its own, signaling long-term conviction.
Liquidity explains the split
ETF managers can exit in an afternoon when rates rise. Staked coins sit in an exit queue for days or weeks.
“One Group Can Sell Tomorrow, the Other Can't”
The whales called it right

Ethereum dropped to $2,372 on September 17, then jumped to $2,609.61 by the 18th. That's a 10% recovery in 48 hours.
ETFs are smaller than they seem
The funds hold $15.42 billion against Ethereum's $318.55 billion market cap, just 4.84%. Their outflows move price less than headlines suggest.
The main idea
Ethereum whales who staked during the dip saw 10% gains in 48 hours while ETFs that sold missed the recovery.
