Solana bounced back from $100, but two things matter most
Solana lost $100 after a Senate vote, then recovered within days while its network hit new highs. The real question is whether the gains stick.
In brief

Solana dropped below $100 on Senate vote

On September 13, Solana closed at $99.26 after a Senate vote on crypto market structure. It fell further to $95.71 on September 15 before bouncing back above $100 by September 17.
“SOL closed at $99.26 on September 13. Two days later, on September 15, it dropped to $96.82, hitting an intraday low of $95.71.”
The drop wasn't unique to Solana
Bitcoin fell 1.09%, Ethereum dropped 3.08%, and Solana fell 1.18% during the same week. All three major cryptocurrencies moved together around the Senate vote, suggesting broad market pressure rather than Solana-specific problems.
“During the same week, Bitcoin fell 1.09%, Ethereum dropped 3.08%, and Solana fell slightly by 1.18%.”
Quick recovery signals healthy demand
When a price breaks support during risk-averse conditions and returns within two days on high volume, it usually means short-term traders and leveraged positions were cleared while actual buyers remained steady.
SEC approved Solana as core ETF asset

Ten days before the Senate vote, the SEC designated Solana as a core ETF asset, qualifying it for spot product frameworks alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. This opened the door to institutional investment products.

Tokenized stocks can now trade on Solana
The SEC announced an Innovation Exemption allowing tokenized stocks to trade on Solana, Ethereum, and BNB Chain. However, the requirements are strict: smart contracts must be auditable and public, and trading must halt when the underlying stock halts.
“smart contracts must be auditable, public, and deployed on a permissionless ledger, and trading must cease when the underlying stock halts”
Solana's network keeps getting faster and cheaper

Solana charges fees under a cent, has pre-confirmation latency of about 400 milliseconds, and aims to cut slot time to 250 milliseconds. These technical advantages explain why the network keeps attracting new activity.

Network activity grew while price fell 59%
Total value locked in Solana's apps grew 23% to $5.92 billion by late August. Decentralized exchange volume rose 7.8% to $17.3 billion, and real-world assets on the chain reached $4.30 billion. Meanwhile, SOL is down 59.1% over the past year.
“Total value locked in Solana's lending and liquidity applications grew from about $4.82 billion on August 16 to $5.92 billion by August 30, a 23% increase.”
Institutional money is flowing in
Solana ETF assets surpassed $1 billion through Bitwise and Fidelity products, and Morgan Stanley filed for its own Solana Trust. Forward Industries now holds over 6.9 million SOL and operates its own validator.

Rising interest rates are the main headwind
The federal funds rate hit 4.00% on September 16, and the 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.01%, its highest in a year. Goldman Sachs predicts another rate hike in October. Tokens that pay no yield struggle when rates are high.
“Rising interest rates are the main pressure on the token. The upper bound of the federal funds target rate reached 4.00% on September 16”
Two things will decide if the bounce holds
First, whether tokenized stock volume actually moves onto Solana under the SEC exemption, not just announcements. Second, whether the Federal Reserve stops raising rates. Until then, Solana trades on macro headwinds while its network grows underneath.
“Two factors decide whether the reclaim holds. The first is whether tokenized stock volume moves onto Solana under the SEC's exemption”
The one thing
Solana's network activity and regulatory wins haven't been priced into the token yet, creating a potential opportunity if the Federal Reserve stops raising rates and tokenized stocks actually launch on the chain.
