Three uranium stocks racing to fuel the nuclear boom

In brief
As AI-driven reactor buildout accelerates, junior miners are positioned to fill a supply gap utilities cannot contract their way out of. Uranium Energy is the only producer with pounds out the door; Denison is a two-year construction bet; NexGen is pure speculation on a world-class deposit. Size them accordingly…
Nuclear boom needs uranium fuel
The U.S. Department of Energy launched Nuclear Dominance 3x33 in April 2026 to secure the domestic nuclear fuel supply chain. Utilities face a widening long-term supply gap while Russian enriched uranium imports are banned.
Three junior miners in the race
Uranium Energy, Denison Mines, and NexGen Energy are US-listed development-stage miners positioned to fill the supply gap. All three are speculative and belong only in small allocations, not sized like mature producers.
Uranium Energy produces pounds now

UEC is the only name actually producing uranium, with a 5.01 billion dollar market cap and fortress balance sheet: 488 million in cash, 794 million in liquid assets, zero debt. In Q3 2026 it produced 32,195 pounds at 54.61 per pound.
UEC's vertical integration play
UEC operates two of three planned U.S. ISR hub-and-spoke platforms and commenced production at Burke Hollow, the largest greenfield ISR uranium project in over a decade. It is pushing into conversion through UR&C, which received its NRC docket number.
“This opportunity positions UEC as the only American vertically integrated nuclear fuel supplier from mining through conversion as nuclear power expands and fuel sourcing shifts back onshore.”
UEC bull case and valuation
Sell-side sentiment is constructive with 8 buy or strong-buy ratings versus 1 hold and an average price target of 17.38 dollars against a share price of 9.95 dollars as of mid-September 18. The stock is down 24.10 percent year to date.
UEC's key risk: lumpy sales
UEC booked zero Q3 revenue and trades at 179x forward multiple on a price-to-sales of 247. Any prolonged weakness in uranium pricing collides directly with the unhedged inventory strategy and single-commodity exposure.
Denison: two-year construction bet
Denison Mines is building the Phoenix ISR mine at Wheeler River in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin, the first Canadian uranium mine approved for construction in over 20 years. Market cap is 2.63 billion dollars with two years of execution risk ahead.
Denison's Phoenix progress
Phoenix is fully financed at FID, detailed design is 90 percent complete, and construction shifted to 24-hour operations in July 2026. Denison has contracted firm sales of 8 million plus pounds U3O8 with 7 million more in advanced negotiations. First production targeted mid-2028.
Denison's escalating costs
Phoenix initial capital moved from CAD 419.4 million in 2023 to CAD 430.5 million to 600 million range. Operating cash burn was CAD 58.8 million in H1 2026. Denison carries CAD 687.3 million in convertible notes against 335 million cash.
NexGen: pure development bet
NexGen Energy is the purest development-stage bet with 6.34 billion dollar market cap and zero revenue. The entire equity value rests on the 100 percent-owned Rook I Project Arrow Deposit in the Athabasca Basin. This is highly speculative.
Arrow deposit is world-class
Arrow holds 257 million pounds U3O8 in measured and indicated resources at 3.10 percent grade, with 240 million pounds of probable reserves at 2.37 percent. Licensed construction activities commenced June 8 after the CNSC resolved all pre-construction license conditions.
NexGen's bullish analyst view
Coverage is unanimously constructive with 16 buy or strong-buy ratings, zero hold ratings, and zero sell ratings. Average price target is 19.29 dollars versus a 9.44 dollar share price as of mid-September 18. NexGen signed a uranium offtake with a major U.S. utility for 1 million pounds per year over five years.
NexGen's financing risks ahead
Pre-production capital has ballooned from CAD 1.3 billion to roughly CAD 2.2 billion. Life-of-mine cash operating cost moved from CAD 7.58 per pound to CAD 13.86 per pound. Working capital is sufficient for at least 15 months, meaning additional financing sits on the horizon.
What to remember
Uranium Energy is the only producer with pounds out the door; Denison is a two-year construction bet; NexGen is pure speculation on a world-class deposit. Size them accordingly.
