Brand in dock at Southwark

Russell Brand, fifty-one, sat in the dock on Tuesday wearing a grey suit and pale blue shirt as his police statements were read to Southwark crown court in London.

Seven charges against Brand

Brand is accused of seven offences against six women in allegations spanning ten years from nineteen ninety-nine. He denies all the charges.

Brand's 'very promiscuous' life

In his first police statement on sixteen November twenty twenty-three, Brand said he led a very promiscuous life in the past which he had spent years openly denouncing.

“I led a very promiscuous life in the past, which I have spent years openly denouncing.”

Blaming media and police

Brand blamed allegations on defamatory and fictitious media reports from September sixteen twenty twenty-three and said police publicly invited additional allegations, resulting in encounters being invented or reimagined.

Consensual encounters reframed

Brand said he had sexual encounters in countless locations with people he had just met, and consensual encounters had been unfavourably reframed decades later by recent media attacks.

Public physical contact

Brand described his celebrity lifestyle as friendly, consensual and warm, saying he shared kisses with hundreds of members of the public during press events and photos are available online.

“My engagement with interested members of the public was friendly, consensual and warm.”

Trial continues after charge change

Brand is accused of three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. On Tuesday an allegation of indecent assault was changed to a charge of attempted indecent assault. The trial continues.
