UNDP Supports Roadmaps

UNDP representative Claudio Providas called the roadmaps a critical step to turn existing climate consensus into action.

“Brazil’s presidency of COP30 has shown leadership. With these two roadmaps, Brazil is making an extremely important contribution to multilateralism.”

WWF-Brazil Highlights Renewable Energy

WWF-Brazil energy specialist Ricardo Fujii noted Brazil’s renewable energy mix and industrial supply chains support the roadmap’s implementation.

“We have a predominantly renewable energy mix, a diversity of sources, hydroelectric, wind, solar, biomass, and biofuels, and established industrial supply chains.”

Climate Observatory’s View

Climate Observatory’s View

Climate Observatory head Stela Herschmann stressed the need for immediate action on the fossil fuel transition roadmap.

“No more excuses. Every country can and must assess its own situation to find its place on this map and start doing its homework right away”

Greenpeace Brazil’s Credibility

Greenpeace Brazil executive Carolina Pasquali praised Brazil’s low deforestation rate as credible for the roadmap’s implementation.

“Carolina Pasquali, executive director of Greenpeace Brazil, believes that the roadmap to ending deforestation and forest degradation carries the credibility of a country that has achieved the lowest deforestation rate in its history.”

Marina Silva’s Historical Context

Former environment minister Marina Silva linked Brazil’s deforestation reduction to global climate goals from 1992.

“Marina Silva noted that in 1992, projections indicated the planet would warm by up to 4°C above pre-industrial levels, but these efforts ensured that by the end of the century, warming would be limited to 2°C”

Next Steps for Implementation

Environmentalists stress the need for political commitment and civil society participation to ensure roadmap success.

“The most challenging part begins now, ensuring a follow-up process for the roadmap that can elevate the political priority of this agenda and at the same time accelerate its implementation, with direct and meaningful participation from civil society, especially indigenous peoples and traditional communities”

The essence

Brazil’s COP30 roadmaps for fossil fuel phaseout and deforestation reduction are welcomed by environmental groups as actionable climate tools.
