Young files ten million dollar suit

Rock star Neil Young filed a ten million dollar lawsuit Monday over President Donald Trump's use of his song Rockin in the Free World at campaign events.
The second lawsuit over same song
Young sued Trump's campaign in twenty twenty over Rockin in the Free World and another song, Devil's Sidewalk. That lawsuit was settled shortly after it was filed.
Suit filed in federal court Virginia
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Virginia against the Trump forty seven Committee, a joint fundraising committee, alleging copyright infringement and specifically mentioning an October rally in Ohio.
Song's meaning contradicts Trump
Young's lawyers say Rockin in the Free World is a blistering anthem contrasting hollow promises of American political rhetoric with harsh realities faced by the poor, homeless and forgotten.

Reputation damage from association
Young's lawyers say the artist has suffered damage to his reputation and brand as a result of the implication that he supports Donald J. Trump in any way.

Lyrics paint opposite of Trump
The lawsuit says the song's lyrics paint vivid street level portraits of suffering while celebrating freedom that clearly isn't shared by all, making it the opposite of everything Trump stands for.
“In short, the Song is the opposite of everything that Donald J. Trump stands for.”
Other artists push back on Trump
Kesha, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter have all objected to Trump or the White House using their music without permission in recent years.
White House and RNC don't respond
The White House referred NBC News to the Republican National Committee. Neither the RNC nor Trump forty seven immediately responded to a request for comment on the lawsuit.
What matters most
Neil Young sued President Trump for ten million dollars Monday over repeated use of his song Rockin in the Free World at campaign events, the second time he has sued over the same music.
