What is FLiPP?

FLiPP stands for FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning. Instead of using fine metal masks to place organic materials in OLED manufacturing, materials are deposited across glass, protected, then refined using photolithography and etching.
Efficiency gains from FLiPP
LG Display found FLiPP increased production utilization from seventy-five percent in conventional processes to over ninety-three percent. Organic material utilization improved from forty percent to seventy-four percent.
Performance improvements
FLiPP enables pixel aperture ratio of sixty-five percent and light-emitting area to boost luminance by one point six times, longevity by two point four times, or reduce power consumption by thirteen percent.
Smaller screens first

LG Display will initially concentrate on the monitor market where displays are smaller. The improved efficiency figures were measured on twenty-three point five-inch panels. Laptops are also on the cards.
Development stages ahead
LG Display Chief Technology Officer Choi Young-seok says the technology is in the first development stage. The next stage is developing actual products, then mass production, which LG expects to reach by late twenty twenty-seven.
Production timeline and facilities
Cho Heung-ryeol, head of the Next-Generation Display Division, says LG Display is evaluating existing LCD and WOLED production lines to see if they can be reused without major modifications.
No TV rollout soon

FLiPP will arrive on smaller displays first. TV fans should not expect the technology on televisions for several years, meaning OLED TV prices are unlikely to drop soon.
The big picture
LG Display's FLiPP technology dramatically improves OLED manufacturing efficiency, with production for monitors and laptops expected to start around late twenty twenty-seven.
