Musk ends Cybertruck production
Elon Musk announced on X that Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.
“Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.”
Reactions split between love and hate
James Star, claiming to be a Tesla employee, called it the saddest news and the best car Tesla sold. Another user replied simply: Fuck that shitbox.
“the saddest news! Cybertruck (was) the best car Tesla sold”
Cybertruck failed to sell despite hype

Despite allegedly over a million reservations and Musk claiming demand was off the charts at the end of 2023, the truck shifted less than fifty thousand units in total by March last year.
“off the charts!”
Sales collapsed in twenty twenty-four
Tesla sold eleven thousand five hundred eighty-six Cybertrucks in the first three quarters of this year in the US, down twenty-eight percent year-over-year, according to Kelley Blue Book data cited by EVWire.
Cybertruck plagued by design flaws
A leaked Tesla report dated January twenty-fifth, twenty twenty-two showed the Cybertruck had basic design flaws. The preproduction alpha version struggled with suspension, body sealing, noise levels, handling, and braking problems.
Launch demo windows shattered twice
In November twenty nineteen, Musk threw a steel ball at the Cybertruck's unbreakable glass windows during a California launch to demonstrate their strength. The demo truck's windows smashed not once, but twice.
“There's room for improvement.”
Eleven recalls in less than two years
The Cybertruck faced multiple recalls including loose accelerator pedals, detached trim panels, faulty wheels, and cracked brake rotor studs.
“worse than 91 percent”
Musk pivots to Cybercab instead

Musk says he is killing the Cybertruck to focus on Cybercab, an autonomous EV central to Tesla's robotaxi ambitions. Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill said the truck lives on through Cybercab.
“Cybertruck was an incredible technology development platform and lives on through Cybercab.”
