Scope3 becomes Apostra today

The ad-tech company that launched in 2022 to measure carbon emissions is rebranding to reflect its new focus on AI-powered media buying and autonomous agents.

The name signals a turn toward simplification

Apostra shares a Greek root with apostrophe, meaning to turn away. CEO Brian O'Kelley says adtech spent 20 years making things complicated, and AI will simplify it.

“Adtech spent 20 years, 25 years, making things really complicated, and simplifying it would have a significant impact.”

Apostra's AI platform is already live

Apostra's AI platform is already live

The company's agentic platform is handling automated media buys in the U.S., U.K., Brazil, France, and other markets for major brands totaling around $1.2 million over the last three months.

Agentic connectors now live on major platforms

Marketers can now manage campaigns across Meta, Google, Pinterest, Reddit, Spotify, and ChatGPT through Apostra's platform, with agentic connectors live today.

O'Kelley confirms definitive pivot away

O'Kelley told Adweek to report loudly that the company is pivoting away from sustainability as its core focus, though it will keep a sustainability practice under the Scope3 name.

“Yes, they are definitely, 100% pivoting away from sustainability as their core focus.”

Sustainability still drives most revenue now

The Scope3 sustainability practice will account for the lion's share of revenue this year, but O'Kelley expects the agentic business to overtake it by this time next year.

Sustainability lost momentum after AI boom

O'Kelley says sustainability has lost the room since the AI boom and Trump's reelection, with initiatives from Detroit's EV push to Microsoft and Google's climate commitments largely abandoned.

“I do not see anybody who's in or around the AI ecosystem being excited about a sustainability conversation.”

Company has shrunk 60% in one year

Apostra now employs 40 people, down 60% from over 100 at the end of 2024. The company sold its ad-verification business Adloox and cut staff across commercial, engineering, and sales.

The main idea

Scope3 is pivoting decisively from sustainability to AI-powered media buying, keeping its old business as a side practice while betting the company on autonomous agents.
